

Joan Hughes Waldron…age 79, passed away on August 15, 2024. Mrs. Waldron was born in Dade City, Florida and was a resident of Mobile. She was the daughter of Paul Emery Hughes and Lenora Ellerbe Hughes. Mrs. Waldron was married to George J. Waldron, III for 56 wonderful years. She is survived by her son Brent Hughes Waldron (Tara), Mobile, AL, daughter Kristy Waldron, Mobile, AL, and three (3) precious grandchildren: Blake Hughes Waldron, Julia Cole Dugan and Bryson Hayes Thistrup, all of Mobile, AL. She is also survived by her sisters Mary Frances Mullins (Bob Dennis), Tallahassee, FL, and Judith Anne Williams (Jerry), Clinton, MS and her brother, Paul Eugene Hughes (Charlotte), Waverly, AL. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Sharon Padgett (Bill), Stockton, AL and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Mrs. Waldron was a retired educator with the Mobile County Public School System, having been selected as an Outstanding Educator of Mobile and retired from the central office as a resource teacher, was a former Executive Director of the Independent Living Center which she started in the Mobile area for individuals with disabilities, and later was Secretary/Treasurer/Sales Manager for GJW Enterprises, Inc. dba Quiznos Sub for fourteen (14) years selling and developing franchises.
Mrs. Waldron was active throughout much of her life with community and civic activities. She was a former Mobile Jaycette, Director of Reading is Fundamental, a past Mother’s March Captain for March of Dimes, a past President of United Cerebral Palsy of Mobile, served on the Board of Directors for Mobile Association of Retarded Citizens and was active in many other charitable endeavors. Mrs. Waldron was a graduate of the University of South Alabama obtaining both Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees.
The family will receive family and friends at Pine Crest Funeral Home between 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, with funeral services immediately following in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Ashland Place United Methodist Church, Building Fund, Ronald McDonald House of Mobile, American Cancer Society, and/or your favorite charity.
