

Sept. 9,1927- Nov. 16, 2014. He was born in McIntosh, Alabama. Lived in Mt. Vernon while growing up. Graduated from Leroy High School in Washington County. Joined the Navy and later moved to Mobile Alabama. He was a faithful member of Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church. He lived a wonderful life of 87 years. He loved music, traveling and taking pictures. He was always supportive of all the nieces, nephews, cousins and close friend's events and was a centerpiece of the family. He loved visiting and family gatherings. He worked for the GM&O railroad and retired after 37 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Cochran Harris Sr and Eunice Mae Harris and brother in laws David B. Homer, Norman B. Mead, Andrew D. Mead, Edwin M. Mead and sister in law, Marie Lamm. Survived by hisWife of 59 years, Frances Louise Mead Harris, Sisters Joyce Harris Homer, And Betty Harris Culbreth (Ron Culbreth) Sister in laws: Dorothy Miller, Betty Ann Kemp, Geraldine (Robert) Turner, Patricia (Patrick) Downing, and Elaine Hayes. Nieces and Nephews on the Harris side of family include:David (Dave) B Homer II (Rosa Lee), James (Jim) P. Homer II, Kendra Murray Strenth (Scotty Holt), Jeffrey Scott Murray (Tyler), Dana Lynn (Richard) M Dunn, Great nieces and nephews:Joshua Richard Dunn, John Edward Strenth IV, J. Scott Murray II, Patricia (Tricia) Jean Murray, Jessica Elizabeth Strenth, Jordan A. D. Dunn, and Joseph Murray Dunn. Uncle J had numerous other nieces, nephews, great nieces, and nephews on Aunt Frances side of the family and loved them all dearly. Faithfully all birthdays were remembered. He loved his family. He had many cousins through generations that he cherished and always loved to hear from. He never met a stranger. When he met someone, they too became a part of his family. Thanks to all who loved and cherished this wonderful, loving, Christian man. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, Mt. Vernon Alabama. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at 10:00 AM from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Interment will be in Pine Crest. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
