

CSM John William Crawford, U.S. Army Ret. – an 80 year-old native of Pisgah, AL and resident of Mobile passed away on Tuesday, September 14, 2010. He was a very devout Christian whose passion was serving God. Mr. Crawford retired from the United States Army after 23 years of service at the rank of Command Sergeant Major, during which time he served numerous tours in Korea, Germany, and Vietnam. Mr. Crawford was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church where he was active in the Bus Ministry. In his last months he attended Solid Rock Church of God. He was a lifetime member of George U Potter Masonic Lodge #912, a Shriner, and served as a counselor for the Alabama State Department of Corrections. Mr. Crawford was preceded in death by his wife, Loney Crawford, and brother, Ray Crawford. He is survived by his children, Jo A. Stoddard, Veronica Smith (Lloyd), John W. Crawford, Jr., Walter H. Crawford (by his late wife Blanca G. Crawford), C.J. Crawford (Brandi), Jeramy Crawford (Alecia), and Cassandra Crawford (by his ex-wife, Margie Crawford); brothers, Larry Crawford (Diane) and Ted Crawford (Joyce); sister, Wanda Digman (George); 17 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Saturday, September 18, 2010, at 10 a.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, September 17, from 5-8 p.m. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
