
John Leonard Donnelly, Jr. - a Mobile native and longtime resident died on March 25, 2011. Mr. Donnelly attended Castle Height Military Academy in Lebanon, TN and graduated from University Military School in Mobile. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, where he was a member of the Delta Sigma Pi honorary business fraternity and Alpha Tau Omega social fraternity. He began his career in New York City with International Paper Company becoming an executive with the Fine Paper Division in Memphis, TN and later the division head in Dallas, TX. He returned to Mobile to complete his career as a successful businessman. He was active in various business and civic associations. Mr. Donnelly was an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. He was a member of the Country Club of Mobile and a mystic society. He was an avid duck hunter and enjoyed salt water fishing. He and his wife were always interested in finding and enjoying new travel adventures in the states and abroad. Alaska was his favorite destination. He was preceded in death by his parents, J. Leonard Donnelly, Sr. and Clara Whitsett Donnelly. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marion Coale Donnelly; two daughters, Karen (Joe) Rubisch of Ashville, N.C. and Marion (Paul) Stabler of Mobile; five grandchildren, Mary Catherine Rubisch, Laura Rubisch, Jack Rubisch, Vivian Stabler and Pack Stabler; two sisters, Louise (Bartee) Greer and Rose (Hallett) McDonough of Mobile; brother-in-law, Harwell (Betty) Coale; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in the Parish Hall on Wednesday, March 30, from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Private graveside services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Christ Church Cathedral, Little Sisters of the Poor, or a favorite charity.
