A lifelong resident of Mobile, John Hatcher Druhan (August 8, 1938), died on March 21,2022. He is preceded in death by his parents, Kathleen Hatcher and James (Gee) Druhan, and sister Kathleen (“Kit”) Geil. He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Ann McGowan Druhan, and children Jay (Jennifer), Ross (Ginger), Marty (Ronald Russo), and Tommy (Rhen) Druhan, grandchildren, Blair Bullock (Wes), Heather Lee (Brandon), and Gee (Christa), Laney, Sims, and Mae Mae Druhan, and great-grandchildren, Grady and Hudson Lee, and Ann Marshall and Hilton Bullock. He is also survived by siblings Sarah Davis and Jimmy, David, and Bob Druhan.
John was a member of the Mobile Area Association of Realtors for over fifty years, receiving the status of realtor emeritus from the National Association of Realtors and the senior residential appraiser designation from the Society of Real Estate Appraisers. He founded Druhan Appraisal Company and was active until his death.
His smile may have been biggest when watching his children and grandchildren’s sporting events and bragging of their educational accomplishments. His worries disappeared at Dauphin Island where he could be found on the porch watching the sunset while enjoying a cocktail with his friend Mr. Gordon or on the seawall hoping to transcend his fond nickname, “One Speck.” If not at the Island or with family, he could be found playing golf at the Country Cub of Mobile with his buddies in the Long Knockers and the Golf Club, participating in several Mardi Gras Societies, or in New Orleans listening to jazz. He would never pass someone in need without lending a hand. He was a lifelong Roman Catholic and a parishioner of St. Ignatius, but was also a “Roaming” Catholic, attending St. Edmond by the Sea, St. Rose of Lima, St. Matthews, Corpus Christi, and Holy Family.
A memorial Mass will be held at St. Ignatius Catholic Church on, Friday, March 25th at St Ignatius Church, visitation 10:00 Mass to follow at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Little Sisters of the Poor or the St. Ignatius Building Fund.
