John Edward Hunter, age 64, of Mobile, Alabama, passed away at his home on Monday, January 20, 2025. Eddie was born on September 29, 1960, to Joyce and Bill Hunter. As the third of five children, four of which were boys, Eddie was as rambunctious as his brothers and enjoyed roaming through their Springhill neighborhood with them, finding endless mischief.
After high school, Eddie joined the Marine Corp Reserves and served for 4 years and working with his father and brothers at the family business, Hunter Printing. In 1994, he and his brother Chris moved to Washington DC and spent the next couple of years living and working together. Sadly, Chris passed in1996 and Eddie moved to Nashville to be closer to his brother Jeff during his time of grief. In 1999, Ed followed his brother Jeff to Dallas, and soon after met his future mother of their children, Tracy. Their daughter Grace was born in March of 2001. They lived in Oklahoma following Grace’s Leukemia diagnosis sent the three of them back to Dallas for treatment. In 2004, once Grace was in remission, Ed moved his family back to Mobile for good and in 2008, his son John’s birth completed the family.
Ed had many different jobs over the years: a printer, a scaffolding sales representative, the founder of a waterproofing company which he ran for 13 years. His favorite job was that of family member. Ed loved his family, and he loved helping them. He checked up on the elderly aunts and uncles, bringing them food, making house repairs, and picking them up for holidays and dropping them home afterwards. He helped take care of his father as his health declined, and later his mother. All of it was done with a smile because he genuinely enjoyed doing things for the people he loved. Above all, Ed loved being a father to Grace and John. Even as years of his own medical challenges made life difficult, he put his energy and heart into being their father.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Joyce and Bill, and his brother Chris. Ed is survived by his daughter Grace, son John, sister Kym Carroll, brothers Randy (Sarah) and Jeff, and his nieces and nephews. Ed’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Christ the Redeemer at Westminster PCA. Visitation will begin at 1pm, with a memorial service at 2pm and a reception to follow.
