John was preceded in death by his wife of sixty years, Amelie Courtney Pitman, his parents Norman D. Pitman, Sr. and Tallulah Arnold Pitman. his brother Ens. Norman D. Pitman, Jr., and his daughter Frances P Inge (Tunstall).
His is survived by his children Norman D. Pitman, III (Belinda), Gwynn Arnold Pitman, and Skipper Pitman (Katherine), his grandchildren J. Tunstall Inge, Jr., Amelie Courtney Inge, Vera P Knox (Graham), Alice Phillips and Crawford Phillips, and his great grandchildren J. Tunstall Inge, III and Louise Lott Inge.
There will be a Memorial Service at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Wednesday, March 25th, 2026 at 12:30 pm. The family will have a private burial.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. Paul Episcopal Church or Spring Hill College.
