Joseph "Gene" Eugene Couch

Joseph Eugene “Gene” Couch, a native and lifelong resident of Mobile, AL died Sunday. Gene was a member of Cypress Shores Baptist Church. He graduated from Vigor High School in 1962. He is also a graduate of Bishop State Community College. Gene recently formed a monthly breakfast club for 1961 and 1962 Vigor High School Alumni. Gene retired from UOP/Honeywell (formerly Union Carbide) in 1992 as Senior Chemical Shift Supervisor and was a lifelong enthusiast of freshwater fishing and was a US Navy Veteran. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. Gene was preceded in death by his father, Earl E. Couch; his mother, Philamena Martin Couch; his brothers, Phillip E. Couch and William “Billy” Couch; his sister, Donna Couch Lacey; his father-in-law, H. Dewitt Dixon; and his brother-in-law, H. Darrell Dixon. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Dixon Couch; his sons, Thomas Jay Couch, Joel Antione Couch, Kenneth R. Oldfield, Jr. and Scott W. Oldfield; two grandsons, Ronnie J. (Tiffany) Couch and Thomas E. (Sandi) Couch; six great-grandchildren, Corey G. Couch, Madison Couch, Olivia Couch, Cailee Couch, Julieanna Couch and Marci Couch; his mother-in-law, Bobbie J. Dixon; nieces, nephews, other relatives; his pets, Rex and Polly, and many friends. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 16, 2014 at 12:00 Noon from the Chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Griffith officiating. The visitation will start at 10:00 A.M. Friday. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. Military Graveside Honors will be rendered by American Legion Post 250. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to Cypress Shores Baptist Church, 4327 Higgins Road, Mobile, AL 36619.
