Mrs. Joyce Hodge Underwood, a long-time resident of Mobile died on Sunday, in Germantown, TN following a heroic struggle with a chronic illness while rehabilitating in TN with her daughter and son-in-law. Mrs. Underwood was a former member of the Pleasant Valley Church of Christ, current member of the Regency Church of Christ and an active member of their "Bear" ladies group. She had been an active member of the Cosmopolitan and local Bridge clubs, avid traveler and camper. She was a supporter and member of the local Humane Society and ASPCA. Mrs. Underwood's life was mutually shared and enriched by her constant canine companion "Buddy". Mrs. Underwood was preceded in death by her loving husband of 48 years, F.E. (Ed) Underwood and survived by two sons, F.E. (Eddie) Underwood, Jr. of Mobile, Donald (Donnie) Underwood of Bainbridge, GA and one daughter, Mrs. Kay U. Ortiz of Germantown, TN, their respective spouses, granddaughter, Ms. Kristy Ortiz, a sister Mrs. Pat Bryan of Chattanooga, TN and several nieces and nephews. She will be missed by many friends. Allen Eldridge will be the officiant. Funeral services will be held from the Chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 12 noon. Visitation will be Friday evening from 5 to 7 PM. Burial will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens
