

Julia Ann “Judy” Johnson, 73, of Mobile, AL passed away peacefully and unexpectedly in her home on Wednesday, July 9th. She was born on February 7, 1941 in Anniston, AL to the late Dr. A.J. Beard, Jr. and Margarette Simpson Beard. She graduated from Anniston High School in 1959 and afterwards attended the University of Alabama where she was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority. Judy married Robert Sparks Johnson, also of Anniston, AL on December 28, 1960 at the First United Methodist Church of Anniston. She later became a dedicated member of Dauphin Way Baptist Church after moving to Mobile, AL in the summer of 1978. Judy was loved by many people for her kindness, generosity, classic Southern charm and grace. Nobody was a stranger to Judy. She was always the first to offer a warm smile and a hug. She loved to cook, tell stories, collect antiques and laugh. You could find her most times enjoying countless hours gardening in her backyard. She was also an artist in her spare time and enjoyed designing her own line of thank you notes and greeting cards. It was an honor to receive one of them. Judy was an avid note and letter writer who loved to keep everyone informed. You could always find her with pen and paper nearby. She was a faithful wife, loving mother and adoring grandmother. She beamed with delight when talking about her grandchildren and their accomplishments. Judy is survived by her husband of 53 years, Robert; her brother Charles Andrew Beard and his wife Mary Crain Beard of Atlanta; her sons and their spouses; Robert Andrew and Karen Pruett Johnson of Mobile; David Mathew Johnson and fiancé, Krista Lynn Trower of Birmingham and Gary Stephen and Christi Richardson Johnson also of Mobile, 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Pallbearers are Jim Bingaman, Luther Davis, III, Mahlon McCracken, Ronnie Jordan, Matthew Johnson, and Christopher Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Joy Sunday School Class. Visitation will be held Monday, July 14th from 10:00 – 11:30 AM at Dauphin Way Baptist Church, Mobile, AL. Funeral service will begin at 11:30 AM also at Dauphin Way Baptist Church with Dr. Mark Foley officiating. Interment will follow in the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort, AL.
