Katherine Elizabeth “Katta” Simon, native of Mobile, Alabama passed away at the home of her niece, Desiree Clarke (Patrick) on Thursday, May 12, 2022. She is preceded in death by her parents, Otto Herman and Vivian Moody Simon, siblings Otto E. Simon, Barbara S. Martin, Vesta S. Evans, Martha S. Henderson, nephew Otto M. Simon and niece, Lee Simon Hightower.
Katherine was a graduate of Murphy High School, Class of 1943. She worked for many years with McPhillips Manufacturing Company and retired after over 20 years as Comptroller for Spring Hill College, where she was the first female to hold that position. She was a lifelong member of Springhill Avenue United Methodist Church. “Katta” loved Mobile Bay and enjoyed time spent with her nieces and nephews teaching them the art of skiing and had a great love of children. She also enjoyed cooking, Dauphin Island, camping and Disney World.
Ms. Simon is survived by her devoted niece, Desiree Evans Clarke (Patrick), and great-niece, Vivian Nicole Clarke, nephews, Robert E. Henderson (Diane), Mark S. Henderson (Tana), nieces, Laura L. Martin (Bruce), Marcia K. Martin (Glen), other family members and friends.
The family would like to express their sincere thank you to Alabama Hospice Care of Mobile for their devotion and care of “Katta”.
Visitation will be held at West Side United Methodist Church on Saturday, June 18, 2022 beginning at 10:00 a.m. A Celebration of Life will begin at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.
