Katie, A.K.A. Mae Stevens “Penny”, was born in Toxey, Alabama, but later moved to New York City where she resided most of her life. In her latter year, she moved back to Mobile, Alabama to take care of her mother and be closer to her family. She was a devoted wife and daughter, loved to read, being outspoken, and traveling. She was a Believer in Christ and God. Katie was preceded in death by her daughter, Valerie Pittman Bennett “Little Penny”; her mother, Lorane Wilson; and husband, Frederick Stevens “Harry”. Left to cherish her memory, a devoted and loving son and daughter, Gigada and LaVada Pearson; loving brother, James Wilson “Paul”; one sister, Betty Chaney; four grandsons, Gerald Pittman “Shane”, Charles Lee Jr., “Anthony”, Nicholas Roberts “Nick”, and Gigada Pearson Jr., “Tony”; one granddaughter, Jada Pearson Forman; great-grandchildren, India and Kirin Lee, Zion and Jaylen Pearson, Payton Marbury and Preston Pearson; as well as nieces, nephews, and cherished family and friends.
A Homegoing Celebration will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023 beginning at 11 a.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway.
