

Born in Bhagalpur, India, Kumar Nath Maitra passed away peacefully on October 22, 2015. He was surrounded by the love of his family at his home in Mobile, Alabama. Educated in India and Germany, Kumar was a mechanical engineer who embraced obstacle and opportunity alike with the same determination, intellectual curiosity, and open heart. Kumar met and married his wife of 53 years, Annie Marie Hagqvist Maitra, in Sweden, and together they moved to Beloit, Wisconsin to create a life that would include their two loving daughters. Working in the pulp and paper industry for Beloit Corporation of Beloit, Wisconsin (later Harnischfeger Corporation) for 35 years, Kumar travelled the world and with his family lived in Japan, England, Brazil and Singapore, finally retiring to Mobile, Alabama, to enjoy the peace and beauty of Dog River and Perch Creek. Surrounded by the gardens created by Annie Marie, Kumar delighted in his grandsons and making connection with the wider world. Kumar continued to engage professionally, consulting and sharing the knowledge and expertise gained over a long career with the next generation of pulp and paper engineers. Left to cherish his memory are: his wife, Annie Marie Hagqvist Maitra; his daughter, Gita Maria Maitra and her husband Patrick Shannon; his daughter, Anna Maitra Kline and her husband Craig Kline; his two grandsons, Liam Padraig Maitra Shannon and Conrad Kamoda Kline; and a wide circle of family, friends and former colleagues across the world.
