

Lewis David Steelman Sr, 85, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 27, 2023, surrounded by his loving family at Springhill Memorial Hospital in Mobile, Alabama. David was born to Robert Allen Steelman and Gladys Miller Steelman on January 31, 1938 in Seminary, MS. He attended William Carey College (University) where he met and married Jean Isbill, his wife of 64 years. David enlisted in the Army in 1959 and was discharged in 1965. At home in Hattiesburg, MS, he worked in the grocery store and sales industries till 1972 when he moved with his family to Mobile, AL to take over as owner of Professional Beauty Supply and later opened Steelman’s Bakery. After those businesses closed, he worked primarily in beauty supply sales till his retirement from State Beauty Supply 2012. He was a member of Christ Fellowship Baptist church, where he was a deacon and worked the kitchen for many years preparing Wednesday night meals as well as meals for special events and for those who came to assist with Hurricane Katrina Relief along the Gulf Coast. David was an avid fisherman who enjoyed playing games, and camping. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He is greatly loved and will be missed.
David was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie “Jean” Steelman; father, Robert A. Steelman Sr; mother, Gladys Miller Steelman; his oldest brother, Robert A. Steelman Jr.; and his younger brother, Cordell Steelman.
He is survived by his three sons, David Steelman, Jr. (Marilyn), James Steelman (Jacqueline), and Michael Steelman; three grandchildren, Jordan Steelman (Emma), William Steelman (Beth), and Kelli Steelman; one great-grandson, Clark; one brother, Gary of Morgan City, LA, as well as a host of other cherished family and friends.
Visitation for David will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2023 from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile, Alabama, with a short devotional service immediately following. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.
