Lillie “Faye” Robertson Schwind joined her husband Chuck in heaven on Saturday, November 4, 2017. She passed away as she had hoped, quickly, in her home, with her daughter at her side. Faye was born to Lillie Eva and Jesse Rector Robertson on May 23, 1930 in the family home in Irvington, Alabama. Faye grew up on the family farm where she learned cooking, canning, and sewing from her mother and made many unforgettable childhood memories with her brothers and sisters. Faye graduated from Alba High School in 1947. She would later return to Alba Elementary School as a PE Teaching Assistant where she served as a positive role model for many young students. Faye was called “Aunt Faye” by so many that when her grandchildren were young, they called her “Aunt Faye” instead of Grandma. She just laughed and said they could call her whatever they wanted. Faye married the love of her life in 1952, a dashing US Navy man named Charles “Chuck” Bernard Schwind. They were stationed in Hawaii for a time and loved the island feel so much that when they returned home, they settled on the Schwind family homestead- one of the oldest homes on Mons Louis Island. There, Faye and Chuck settled in rearing their three children and enjoying family life. Chuck passed away in 1977. Faye was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bayou La Batre and the Belle Fontaine Garden Club. She always enjoyed good friends, good food, and good fellowship. She also loved life on the bay, watching the pelicans fly over the water from her front porch swing, watching the ships sail by, and making her delicious West Indies Salad from her freshly trapped bay crabs. Faye was a much beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She is survived by her three children, Clayton Schwind (Lisa), Sharon Lee (Tommy), and Eva Schwind; five grandchildren, Jeremy Schwind, Jeffrey Schwind (Theresa), Forrest Schwind (Dara), Charlie Lee, Elise Powell (John Shannon); six great-grandchildren, Reese, Aidan, Preston and Parker, Tucker, Sharlee; and two sisters, Betty Murphy and Gloria Steiner.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Radney Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Thursday at 1:00 pm at Zirlott Road United Methodist Church. Faye will be laid to rest beside her husband Chuck at Oddfellow Cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of Radney Funeral Home-Mobile, Mobile, AL.
