Linda Farley Bowman - died peacefully Monday, October 31, 2011, after a courageous battle against cancer. A native of Bossier City, LA, Mrs. Bowman had resided in Mobile since 1988. Linda was preceded in death by her mother, Vera Farley Viles. She is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Charles L. Bowman; her son, Brian Anthony Bowman; her sister, Colleen Soulier; her father, Daniel D. Farley; her dogs, Cory and Saint; and many friends. Linda took great pride in her son Brian and enjoyed supporting all of his academic endeavors as well as his involvement in baseball and football at St. Paul’s. He and her husband Charles were the great loves of her life. A valued staff member of St. Paul’s Episcopal School for 23 years, Linda was known for her many acts of kindness to students, faculty, and other members of the St. Paul’s family. Her extraordinary generosity toward others was a reflection of her selfless and loving nature. She preferred to serve quietly, but she took great joy in making wonderful costumes for the Spring Show each year and in supporting the many community service projects of the school. Linda was a great lover of animals as well as people, and she cherished the frequent trips she and Charles took to SeaWorld. Her opportunities to swim with the Beluga whales and with the dolphins were highlights of recent months. Family members would like to express their gratitude for the compassionate and loving care provided by Linda’s physicians, Dr. Thomas McGee and Dr. Thomas Butler, and by the nurses on the fourth floor of Mobile Infirmary.
A celebration of Linda’s life will be held in the chapel of Radney Funeral Home, 3155 Dauphin Street, on Saturday, November 5, at 10:00 a.m. The family will receive friends at 9:00 prior to the service. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Linda Bowman Memorial Scholarship Fund at St. Paul’s Episcopal School, the SPCA, or the ChemoSabe program at the Mitchell Cancer Center.
