Linda M. Taylor, Age 70 of Mobile, Alabama passed away suddenly on Thursday, April 30, 2020. She was preceded in death by her parents Lester J. Taylor and Shirley M. Taylor and her sister Shirley “Rennie” Taylor. She is survived by her brother, Lester “Les” J. Taylor, Jr. and his wife Marlene. Aunts, an Uncle and Cousins mourn her death, along with a multitude of friends from Alabama across to Texas and up to Maine who she also loved and considered “family”. In addition, she leaves behind her close confidant and faithful canine sidekick known to all as Mr. Taylor.
Linda was a graduate of Troy State University and received her Ph.D. from Baylor University. Her career covered almost every aspect of education from teaching to administration and lastly in the textbook industry working with publishing giants such as Rand McNally and Simon & Schuster. It was during these “textbook years” that she fell in love with her “Beloved Texas”.
She also worked for Hendrick Home for Children helping to ensure children from broken homes were raised in a safe loving Christian environment. After retiring, she returned to Mobile to be closer to family but maintained many distant friendships traveling constantly to visit and keeping in touch.
Linda lived her faith actively serving God daily. She enjoyed exploring different religious faiths and was always an active participant contributing where her talents could be used best; teaching Sunday School, keeping a church blog, cooking for potlucks and singing in the choir. Her lifetime of tireless volunteer work was always delivered with a spirit of joy and happiness and brought her many “nicknames” from both those with whom she worked with and those she served. Her nicknames included, The Apron Lady from always being found in an apron cooking for someone, as well as making aprons to give as gifts; The Cookie Lady from passing out cookies to neighbors she and Mr. Taylor would meet on their daily walks; and The Souper Lady from making and delivering soup to friends, the sick and those in need. However, due to her considerable accomplishments, many feel the more appropriate moniker would be The Super Lady.
In her personal time (whenever that was) she enjoyed playing guitar, singing, and most recently painting. She was a long-time member of the Sweet Adelines, an international organization of women singers. Saturdays in the Fall would find her cheering on the University of Alabama Crimson Tide ”Roll Tide Roll” and her alma mater, the Baylor Bears.
She will be tremendously missed but not forgotten because her legacy lives on through those she touched.
