Mr. Black was a fine man and example for all his students. He was my principal at B.C.Rain and then gave me my first head football job at Mary G. Montgomery. An honorable man who is much missed.

Mr. Black was principal at Baker High before I became principal there. He was so supportive, helpful, and kind to me. He helped me understand the Baker community.. I knew I could call him with problems and I relied on his wisdom. I also worked at Satsuma High where his first wife served as cafeteria manager.  Mr. Black would occasionally visit there to see Miss Bunny and his good friend Bob Faulk. Those three taught me so much. I truly cared for both Mr Faulk and Mr. Lloyd back.

Mr Black was a fine man and a good friend to my family, I first knew of him as my brother Alvin's vice principal at vigor high school  ,1964, then my brother Jimmy 1966 followed by me in 1968 ,and my sister Phyllis in 1971.. he helped my brothers find after school jobs and a good friend to me, and in 1989 he was the principal at MGM high school when my son, Sidney, graduated so I have been blessed to know this man and privileged to be his friend, rip Sir,  I know you will be missed by many.

Mr. Black was Vice Principal at Vigor when I was there in the early 60s. Unfortunately, I was not in his history class, but I do recall his personal involvement with all of us students and his vigilance for orderly conduct even in the halls. In 1987 he gave me a job teaching English at Mary Montgomery High School, which I very much appreciated since I had not taught while my children were young. When I left for NJ with a new husband, he provided an evaluation worthy of Mother Theresa for me! Of course, it is very difficult to find teaching jobs when no one in a community knows you. I'll always remember his kindness, warmth, and support.  A good man!

One of my favorite educators that I remained friends with until he passed away.  I had him as a teacher and then as a friend, enjoying his wonderful personality and wit! No matter what his position, he never forgot who he was.  He left the world a better place!  He will be missed by many!  Spencer Adams

Mr. Black was my Principal Class of 1987. He was a kind man and always had a kind words to say. I seen him through the years and he always had a smile on his face. Thank you for caring about all of us at MGM

Mr. Black hired me as a special education teacher when I came to Mobile in 1985. He was my principal for nearly 9 years. He was a wonderful advocate for his faculty and a wonderful friend. We exchanged Christmas cards every year since. Some of my fondest memories were made while at MGM. He and my husband, Shelby, used to swap knife stories. 
He will be terribly missed.

Mr. Black was a neighbor and the best principal I ever taught under in my 30 years as a teacher in the Mobile County School System.  His strong point was the common sense he always used in solving problems.

I am a student of mr black he was my prisabal he work in office at mgm he was awesome sweet kind he help me become what i am today he reason i graduated without him i wouldn't make it most students get pregnant quit school i didn't i walk across stage at almost three months pregnant but i did it i couldn't done with my awesome preciapal

Mr Black was my Assistant Principal at Vigor High when I was there. He was the disciplinarian and Mr Syltie was the nice guy. He was always firm, fair and consistent. He devoted his life to his students. I’m sorry that I never had the opportunity to be in one of his history classes. A fine man who will be missed. My condolences to his family. 

Mr. Black was my principal in my first years at MGM. (c/o 1990)  I was one of those kids who flew under the radar for the most part, so I was never really certain if he knew me.  I have fond memories of him, seeing how personable, gentle, and kind he was in his interactions with other students. He seemed to always have his finger on the pulse of the school and did everything in his power to make school a place where all students felt included and accepted.   My sincere condolences to the family, I'm sure he will be greatly missed.  


Mr. Black was a wonderful teacher at Vigor, and one of my favorites. I remember on student teacher day, he asked me to teach, which was certainly an honor to be asked by him to do that.  I know he will be missed.

Mr Black was my principal at MGM. Graduated in 1988. He was a wonderful man. Many good memories. Deepest sympathy to his family. 

Mr Black was my High School principal at MGM. I am a graduate of the class of 1981. His memories will be forever in the lives of many whom he touch with his kind heart. Rest now Mr Black... to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. To the family of the late Lloyd Black. God Bless and keep you in his care.

Mr.  Black was my high school principal at MGM.  First day of my freshman year, he stopped me in the hallway and ask my name. Then he ask my mother’s name.  One look at me and he recognized something familiar. When I told him my mother’s maiden name he smiled and said, I taught your mom at Vigor High School. He took me in his office and made me late for my 1st period class. He was a kind RIP Mr. Black (class of 1984).

He always had time for his students. Remembering names of each of us. He was my principal in 1988 at Mary G. Montgomery, he called our class. The class of Murphy's Law. Rest in peace, you will be truly missed and I will always have the upmost respect for you.

Thank you Mr. Black for being a part of my youth and shaping my future.  You were always a kind and gentle man.  I never saw you without a smile.  May you rest in peace.

Mr. Black was a fine man. He not only was my high school principal at B.C. Rain but also hired me as head football coach and A.D. at Mary G. Montgomery H.S. in Semmes right before he retired.  My sympathy and prayers go to his family in their time of sorrow.  God Bless. 

I was in his first year class at Vigor and later he was Principal at MGM when my sons were there.  I was a PTA officer during these years and he would always start off the first meeting each year by telling everyone he taught me at Vigor and made me stand in the hall for talking.   He was a very good history teacher and a wonderful man.   He will be truly missed.  

Lloyd was my high school history teacher at  Vigor High School and later in life, we were colleagues in the Mobile County Public School System for many years. He was a wonderful teacher and principal and was loved by his students as well as fellow educators. 
May the Lord bless his dear family at this sacred and tender time.

Mr Black was the Principal when I graduated in 1971. He was a good man and I never got to fully appreciate him until much later in my life. We were both patients of Cardiology Associates so I got to see him from time to time in the last few years. RIP Mr. Black. You were a great man! 

He was my first principal at BC Rain HS starting in the 7th grade so many years ago. I remember his long talks first thing in the morning in home room. I will never forget he told us anyone who wore jeans was hippie and belong to a drug colony. He let us wear pant suits for the first time as long as the top was 3 inches below the knee. Those were such fun days when we knew him. Also not to forget the alligator let loose in his office.  We gave him a hard time but he was  a good man and took it in stride. Rest In Peace Sir!

Mr. Black was principal at Ben C. Rain High School while I was there back in the ‘70’s. He was instrumental in our education and a kind soul for me and my sisters and brother. 
He even attended my Daddy’s funeral which meant the world to all of us.

Mr. Black came to MGM my junior year as our new and 3rd principal. Mr. Black was also my mother’s history teacher at Vigor. Mr. Black not only touched our lives in the professional positions he held, but he was also present in 2003 to award a scholarship named in his honor to my oldest daughter. Mr. Black after finding out I had signed to play football at Holmes Jr. College would make me late for Mr. Turner’s class telling me stories of that area in which he grew up. I remember him telling me that his brother had jukeboxes set up in establishments and he would go around and collect the coins and service them. Over the years we have crossed paths many times and told the same stories over and over, but the one thing I appreciate the most is that he went out of his way to help me secure my first teaching job. 40 years later I am still working in the profession.
