Mabel McGowan Rooney - a lifelong resident of Mobile, died October 30, 2010 at the age of 85. Mabel spent her career at the Alabama Dry Dock and Shipbuilding Company retiring in 1989. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. “Pat” Rooney; her parents, Martin Sylvester McGowan and Mabel Burns McGowan; and three siblings, David C. McGowan, Elodie M. McQuillen, and Angela M. Games. She is survived by her devoted and loving daughter, Venetia R. Dyas; her son-in-law, Eric J. Dyas; her grandchildren, J. Alexander Dyas, Zachary E. Dyas, Jacob L. Dyas and Shannon T. Dyas; her siblings, Martin S. McGowan, Margaret M. Scott, Edward F. McGowan, Catherine “Kaky” M. Hughes, John P. McGowan, and Ann M. Druhan; and numerous nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Christ the King Church in Daphne, Alabama on Monday, November 1, 2010 at 12 noon. The family will receive visitors at the Church beginning at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Christ the King Catholic School, 1503 Main Street, Daphne, Alabama 36526. Interment will be at the Catholic Cemetery of the Archdiocese of Mobile.
