Marie Stone Weeks entered into heaven and the presence of her Savior on February 11, 2026. She was born August 14, 1936 to Girard and Edith Stone, and lived a life rooted in love, family, diligent work and generous hospitality.
On July 2, 1955, she married the love of her life, Bill D. Weeks, with whom she shared a devoted marriage. Marie and Bill lived, worked, and served in Vernon, Alabama, for over 50 years until health and family concerns necessitated a move to Mobile, Alabama. Vernon was always home, and their church family at First Baptist Church of Vernon remained their spiritual center until the Lord called them
home. In their retirement years, Marie and Bill delighted in traveling across the United States and to other parts of the world, making treasured memories side by side. Bill preceded her in death on July 10, 2020.
Marie was a devoted mother to Teresa Walker and Carole Duffey. Teresa’s children —Howard Walker (wife Haley, and their sons Grayson and Henry), Mary Rhett Walker (deceased), Ann Marie Walker, Sam Walker, and John Walker—were the greatest joys of Marie’s life. She loved her grandchildren without bounds and
poured herself into their lives with encouragement, care, and pride. They honored her and loved her back in equal measure.
Her home was both her haven and her ministry. Marie had a gift for making others feel welcome and cared for. Her cooking and baking skills were without rival, and she found deep joy in sharing the fruits of her kitchen with anyone who might be blessed by them. She was an accomplished gardener who delighted in anything with a beautiful leaf or blossom, creating spaces of beauty wherever she planted. An expert seamstress, she expressed her creativity and care through the things she made with her hands.
Marie gave selflessly, standing by her family through every triumph and every sorrow. Her life was a quiet testimony of service, resilience, and steadfast love.
She is survived by her daughters, Teresa Walker and Carole Duffey; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her siblings, Mary Griffin and Jimmy Stone(Cheryl); and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill D. Weeks; her granddaughter, Mary Rhett Walker; and her cherished siblings Gilbert Stone, Herol Stone, Marcelle Peeler, and Weynona Poore.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
