Nelson, Blair A. Nelson, Dana Nelson, Debbie (David) Nelson, Paul (Annie) W. Nelson, Jr., and nine grandchildren. Marilyn graduated from Julius T. Wright School in 1970 and received her B.S. in Education from The University of Alabama in 1974. She taught at Independent Methodist School until she left to pursue a career in nursing. She received her Associates Degree in Nursing from the Mobile Infirmary School of Nursing and her Master’s Degree in Nursing from the University of Mobile. She was an instructor at the Providence School of Nursing and was a faithful employee of Providence Hospital until her retirement in 2010 due to health issues.
Marilyn was a devoted member of Dauphin Way Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and sang in the Choir. In recent years she worked in the DWBC Home-Bound Ministry making phone calls and sending letters to those unable to attend services. She served others during a time in her life when she herself was often confined to her own home due to poor health.
Marilyn was a loving wife to Paul, a devoted mother to her five children and a constant source of joy to her friends. She will be remembered for her kindness to others, her gentle spirit and her unfailing good humor. Marilyn managed her many challenges by relying on her faith in Christ. Though the world held in certainties, she was confident in her Savior. As she often said, “Why am I worrying; I belong to Him.” The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Mercy Life for the care they provided Marilyn over the last four years. They are also grateful to the staff of FMC West Mobile Dialysis Center. Funeral Services will be held at Dauphin Way Baptist Church on Wednesday, March 11, 2018 at 12:00pm. Visitation will be from 10:30am until time of service. In lieu of flowers, in light of Marilyn’s appreciation for adoption as an adopted child herself, the family asked that you make a contribution to Lifesong for Orphans-#6729 (P.O. Box 40, Gridley, IL 61744) or a charity of your choice.
