Chris was born to William Ervin and Emma Ethel Smith July 13, 1930, in Vaiden, Mississippi. In February 1951, she married James Robert “Bob” Shields. Together, they raised two daughters. Chris had a successful career as a realtor in Granite City, Illinois, and was the first woman to hold a board position on the Granite City Board of Realtors.
Chris had a green thumb and enjoyed working in her garden. She was also dedicated to her family and cherished the time she spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Chris was preceded in death by her parents, Ervin and Ethel; husband, Bob; and brothers, Paul and Sherlon. She is survived by daughters, Beth (Steve), Robin (Jule), and Betty (Ray); sister, Sylvia Yates; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 PM February 18, 2020 at Pine Crest Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
