

She graduated from Murphy High School and attended Randolph Macon Women's College and Auburn University. Kay was a lifelong member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. As an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Kay served nationally as a Vice-President General and also as the Alabama State Regent. Kay was also an integral part of the Colonial Dames of XVII Century and was responsible for establishing Alabama Chapter for the Children of the American Revolution along with serving as an advisor for Kate Duncan Smith School. Kay was very active in other civic activities including the Art Patrons League, Providence Hospital Auxiliary, Past President of the Catholic Boys Home Auxiliary, Historic Mobile Preservation Society, and Kappa Delta Alumni Association.
She is preceded in death by her parents Joseph Nelson Horner and Mary Katherine Mayhall Horner.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Leo Adrian Dekle, brother John Nelson (Mary) Horner, sons Leo A. Dekle Jr., David N. (Jane) Dekle, Brian A. (Julie) Dekle, Paul T. (Lori) Dekle, Lt. Col Michael J. (Stephanie) Dekle, Carl D. (Lynn) Dekle, Eric C. (Deidra) Dekle, daughters Emilie K. (Stephen) Barnett and Mary Kay (Dr. Matthew) Eves, 21 beautiful grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter.
Kay had a passion for life and her family. She was a true patriot and scholar. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her beautiful smile and gentle ways will always be remembered.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Monday, August 20, 2012 at St. Pius X Catholic Church. The family will receive friends at Radney Funeral Home, Dauphin St, on Sunday, August 19, 2012 from 5 PM to 8 PM.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Pius X Catholic Church, 217 S Sage Avenue, Mobile, AL 36606. Internment will follow at The Catholic Cemetery.
