

Medrick "Papa" Thompson – born February 18, 1935, was called home to Glory by his Lord and Savior on Monday, May 23, 2016. He served as an Air Force Paratrooper stationed in Japan in the early 1950's during the occupation following World War II. His working career consisted of over 25 years at Ingalls Shipbuilding, and he retired as a successful business owner of Thompson Pest Control, where he will be remembered by many loving customers. He was an active member and one time deacon, usher, and greeter at Woodridge Baptist Church and will be remembered as the man with the candy for all the children. His gifts from the Lord were mercy, helps, and giving. He loved his daughter, Ronda, graciously tolerated his son-in-law, Maurice, and deeply loved his grandchildren, Clark and Jon Marc who were his heart. He will be sorely missed by his immediate family including Ronda's sister, Avanell Peters, church family and many special friends. Medrick was preceded in death by his "beautiful bride", Mildred, with whom he has been reunited in Heaven; parents, Medrick and Dorothy Mae Courtwright Thompson; and brothers- and sisters, Marion "Bud" Spicer, Irvine Shires, Dorothy Winterstein, and Lawrence "Pete" Thompson. He is survived by his daughter, Ronda Girardeau (Maurice); brothers and sisters, Jack Dewayne Thompson (Carolyn), Doris "Lou" Stokes (Bo), Jean Stewart (William), Robert "Bobby" Thompson (Dora); grandchildren, Clark and Jon Marc Girardeau; as well as numerous nieces, and nephews. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2016, at Woodridge Baptist Church, 2700 Schillinger Rd., from 10 a.m. until 1p.m. funeral service. Dr. Mack Morris will officiate.
