

Melia Faye Saliba, known as Mimi to family and close friends, died in her home, surrounded by family on May 28, 2024. Mimi was born in Blytheville, Arkansas on July 6, 1940. A resident of Mobile since 1964, she was an active member of the community including service in the Mobile Jaycettes, as a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, member of the Lebanese American Club, and through the Mobile Exchange Club. She was extremely dedicated to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, where she was an active Altar Guild and St. Catherine’s Guild member. In the early years of St. Paul’s School, she volunteered in the library and frequently served as Room Mother. She worked as a Bookkeeper alongside her husband in his law practice. In her later years, she enjoyed travel (armed with Lysol), her grandchildren, and cooking. Her specialties included Baklava, Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies, and Crawfish Pasta. Only her mother and aunts made better friend chicken and kibbeh. Mimi’s family has fond memories of her cooking holiday meals alongside her mother-in-law, Amelia Saliba.
She was predeceased by her sister Linda Gee. Mimi is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Judge William (Bill) H. Saliba, daughter Cynthia (Cindy) Saliba, daughter Dr. Debra Saliba, her son-in-law Jay Smith, and grandsons Mason Smith and Connor Smith. She is also lovingly remembered by several nieces and nephews. Her family is grateful for the care provided by many health care providers including April Stallworth, April West and Linda Mitchell.
Visitation will be held in St. Paul’s Parish Hall beginning at 12:30 p.m. and a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel on Saturday, June 1, 2024. She will be interred in Blytheville, Arkansas next to her parents.
