

Norman was born on August 24, 1929 in Mobile, Alabama. He graduated from Central High School and Alabama State University with honors. He was a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force. Norman, an advocate of public education, was also one of the first elected Black officials to serve on the Mobile County School Board. He was a member of The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd.
Norman was a loving and devoted father and husband. He was preceded in death by his parents, Preston and Auretta Cox, his sister Kathryn McZeek (Albert) Hannon, and his brothers Oswaldlee Cox, Vernon Cox, and Fonville Cox. Survivors include his wife: Julia; his daughters: Elizabeth (John) Schlosser and Rebecca (James) Brower; four grandchildren: Norman Weaver, Tristen Brower, Grayson Brower, and Juliahnna Schlosser, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and many friends.
Visitation will be held Monday, October 12, 2015 at Pine Crest Funeral Home & Cemeteries, Mobile AL, at 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway from 6-8pm. The funeral will be held October 13, 2015, at The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd on 605 Donald Street at 11am. Interment will follow at Pine Crest Funeral Home & Cemeteries. In lieu of flowers please make donations payable to the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd.
