

Oscar Earl Williams, Jr. - Born October 28, 1921 in Chicora, Mississippi and a resident of Whistler, Alabama for over 70 years died at a local hospital January 13, 2011. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Cora Elizabeth Dixon of Prichard, Alabama. He is survived by two sisters Betty Robinson (Jim) of Brooklyn, Alabama and Donna Loftin of Daphne, Alabama; companion Elsie Olewnik; and other relatives. He was an active honorary member of the Mobile County Sheriffs Flotilla for over 25 years, a Mardi Gras Association for over 25 years and the Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick. He loved and worked hard for each of these organizations. He was also a member of the Baldwin County Senior Travelers. He worked at Brookley Air Force Base in Mobile before entering the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942. After being discharged from the military in 1946, he returned to Brookley and worked in A/C Maintenance and Management until Brookley closed. He then transferred to the Army Missile Command in Huntsville, Alabama where he retired with more than 25 years Federal Government service. Upon returning to Whistler, he worked for the Mobile Steamship Association- ILA 1459 for 17 years. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Monday, January 17, 2011 at 1 p.m. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, January 16, from 5-8 p.m. The family asks that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the Mobile County Sheriffs Flotilla PO Box 9916 Mobile, Alabama 36691-0916.
