
Robert Anthony Guthans – a native of Mobile, AL passed away on June 5, 2011, at the age of 82. He graduated from McGill Institute and Virginia Military Institute. As a commissioned officer, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On returning to Mobile, he worked for Southern Industries Corporation as Vice-president of Corporate Development. He later served as president of B.R. Dredging Co. He retired as president and CEO of Midstream Fuel Service, Inc. He was active in many business and civic organizations. He served as a member of the board of Trustees of Spring Hill College and the V.M.I. Foundation. He served as a board member of Amsouth Bank, Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Alabama, the Industrial Development Board of Mobile, the Business Council of Alabama, and the American Club. He also served as chairman of the American Waterways Operators and the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Downtown Rotary Club. Mr. Guthans was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Loretta Couvillion Guthans. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann Taylor Guthans; children, Robert A. Guthans, Jr. (Tami), Jeanie Guthans Wilkins (Richard), and daughter-in-law, Lynn Turner Guthans; grandchildren, C. Richard Wilkins, Jr., Christopher Wilkins, and Michael Wilkins, Robert A. Guthans, III, and Taylor Lynn Guthans; sister, Gretchen Guthans Rehm; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends in the Gautrelet Room on the campus of Spring Hill College at 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 8, 2011. A Mass for family and close friends will follow at St. Joseph’s Chapel on the campus of Spring Hill College at 11 a.m. with Reverend Mark I. Neske serving as Celebrant of the Mass. Serving as pallbearers will be Robert A. Guthans, III, Carleton Richard Wilkins, Jr., Robert Christopher Wilkins, Joseph Michael Wilkins, Alexander Paterson Armbrecht, William Taylor Armbrecht, Gary Guthans Rehm, and John Edwin Rehm, Jr. Honoraray pallbearers will be Maj. Kenneth J. Skipper, USMC Ret., William H. Armbrecht, III, John Marshall Morrissette, Jr., Dr. John H. Lyden, T. Lee Robinson, Jr., James Manson Murray, Thomas S. Cowan, D.
