Robert Harrison Jones died on November 10, 2025, at 86 years of age, after a three-year battle with leukemia and associated complications. He was a country boy at heart and maintained a small family farm in Stateline, Mississippi, his entire life while he worked and raised a family in Mobile. He managed to make his final trip to visit his farm and his animals the week before he died.
He was married to Virginia C. Jones for 59 years, and together they raised five children in Mobile, Alabama. He was a frame carpenter for most of his career and took pride in being stronger and doing more work than most men half his age. He never truly retired and continued working through his chemo treatments because he believed it did him good.
He had a fiery personality matched only by his love of Jesus and the Blessed Mother. He attended weekly Mass as a Baptist because he was drawn to the presence of the Eucharist, and he subsequently converted to Catholicism in his 60s. He remained a devoted weekly Mass-goer for the rest of his life.
He loved being part of a large family on both sides. As the last of nine children, he always remembered his sisters and brother fondly. He loved his wife’s family just as dearly and felt honored to have married into an Italian family. His nieces and nephews were especially cherished.
He loved hunting and often said he would reminisce about his five children while in a deer stand, looking up at the moon that God seemed to make just for him. He wasn’t fond of obituaries and would appreciate one that was short and to the point.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia C. Jones; his five children, Mead, Kenneth (Chen Zhou), Mellanee, Toni Marie (Bill), and Todd; as well as four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is loved, remembered, and sorely missed until we all see him again in Heaven.
A private family Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, November 14, at St. Dominic Church. The family requests that, in lieu of sending flowers, donations be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor.
