Roberta Smith Hudgens passed away peacefully on February 23,2022 after a lengthy illness at a local health care facility. She was a native Mobilian and attended Murphy High School. She graduated from Auburn University where she met her lifelong love and companion, Howard. She worked as teacher in English studies for the Mobile County school system until family life became her focus. She enjoyed traveling and playing bridge with her friends for many years. She faithfully lived her life dedicated to her family and her faith.
She was preceded in her death by her parents, Dorothy Dufty Smith and Sandy Smith, her husband of 55 years, William (Howard) Hudgens and her son, Andrew Howard Hudgens.
She leaves behind her son, Russell (Celle) Hudgens, MD., daughter, Amy Hudgens Burnette of Woodstock, GA, brother Donald (Betty) Smith of Pensacola, FL, grandchildren: Blythe H. (Ryan) Miller, Katie H. (Ben) Lilly, Daniel Hudgens, Lauren Burnette, Patrick Burnette, and two great-grandsons, Boone and Hunt Miller.
The family would like to thank the care teams at Springhill Senior Residence and Southern Hospice care for their kind and compassionate care in her final days. She is to be laid to rest at Pine Crest cemetery after a family graveside service Monday, February 28, 2022. In lieu of flowers, please send gifts to the development fund at Christ United Methodist Church.
