

Mr. Ruble Charles Dowdle, age 86, native of Irvington, AL and longtime resident of Mobile, AL, passed away at his home on Monday, October 6, 2014. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ruble C. and Rebecca Dowdle. Mr. Dowdle retired as Comptroller with GMO Railroad after over thirty years of service. He served his country honorably with the Army National Guard, U. S. Army and retired at the rank of Major with the United States Army Reserve. He was a charter member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. He was the longtime troop leader of Troop 28, Boy Scouts of America and was awarded the Silver Beaver Award, the highest award in scouting leadership. He was also an avid fisherman. Mr. Dowdle is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nellie Graham Dowdle, children, Debra Dowdle, Gary Dowdle (Karen), Kevin Dowdle (Rhonda), granddaughters, Avril Laurendine, Alicia Landry (Philippe) and great-grandchildren, Corvin, Madlin and Caiden Landry. He is also survived by his siblings, Walter Dowdle (Mabel), Carleton Dowdle (Marilyn) and Rebecca Drew (Ralph). Visitation will be held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church on Thursday, October 9, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the church on Friday, October 10, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Oddfellow Cemetery, Bayou La Batre, AL. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association or St. Luke’s Episcopal Lower School. The family wishes to express their special thanks to Dr. George Eyrick and Dr. Williams Hicks. Pallbearers will be Charles Graham, Anthony Sarradet, Joe Sirmon, Dale Rackley, Jimmy Holmes and David Hare. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Boyd Reeves, Joe Duraldo, Tom Murray, Buddy Gocene, George Cumanis, Dick Campbell, Jim Johnson, Steve Sibley, Bud Holston, Don Howie, Roger Tourney, Wyatt Bayer, Harold Wynn, Pierre Gretchen, Leon Sundil, Mike Thompson, Bounce Back Staff: Pauline Martin, Heather Smith, Steve Miller, Ramie Asher , Stacey Pace and Members of The Alabama Coastal Fisherman’s Association.
