
Sally “Sarah” Harris Witt- 96, of Mobile, AL passed away Monday, March 17, 2014. She was born June 8, 1917 in Okalona, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Dr. David H. Witt; her parents, Mr. William Kennon and Mannie Cloud Harris; four brothers, Charlie Dee, Thomas Lindsay, Gerald Lee, and William Kennon, Jr. She is survived by her son, David H. Witt, Jr.; sister-in-law, Mrs. Elaine Harris; three nieces; two nephews; and many cousins.
Her professional career included consultant and bridal buyer for Keers Department Store in Oklahoma City, OK. In 1955, she moved to Dallas, TX and opened a bridal shop in Greens Department Store while her husband was obtaining his Master’s Degree in Music. She moved to Mobile in 1960 and opened Sally’s Bridal Salon at Springdale Mall. She remained in that business until 1987. Her husband was organist and choir director at St. Francis St. United Methodist Church while Sally was the soprano soloist in the choir and worked with youth activities in the church. After her husband’s retirement, they became members at Spring Hill Avenue United Methodist Church where she was a member of the choir, the worship committee, chairlady of the Baxter Circle, and member of the U.M.W. From 1988 to the present, she has been a volunteer worker at U.S. A. Children’s and Women’s Hospital. During this same period she served as treasurer, vice president, president elect and president of the U.S.A. Children’s and Women’s Auxiliary.
Funeral services will be held from Spring Hill Avenue United Methodist Church on Thursday, March 20, 2014, at 12 noon. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 a.m. until the service hour. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery. Condolences may be offered at www.radneyfuneralhome-mobile.com.
