Shirley was the oldest child of William Clyde Boyd and Mollie Estelle Olshansky. Shirley, who grew up in an Orthodox Jewish household, is survived by a sister, Marlene Kay Cabic and a brother, Norman David Boyd, her aunt Sue Reed and a niece, Naomi Cabic.
Shirley graduated from Munford High School and Wayne State University—both located in Detroit, Michigan. While living in Michigan, she was President of the Mini Schnauzer Club of Michigan. And while living in the Cayman Islands as a small business manager, Shirley was President of the Humane Society.
Upon moving to Mobile, Shirley worked in Marketing and Public Relations for Goodwill Industries, Easter Seals of the Gulf Coast, Inc. And again Shirley put on her volunteer hat; she served as President of the Mobile Kennel Club, Director of the Greater Gulf Literacy Council and as a VISTA Volunteer.
Shirley was a student of Torah; having attended weekly Torah Study Classes for years.
Per Shirley’s wishes, her ashes will be interred with her dad’s family at the Crest Lawn Cemetery in Cookeville, Tennessee.
