

She was born Shirley Elizabeth Eagan on August 1, 1923 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her grandparents were John Costello Eagan, Elizabeth Fanning, Henry C. Balster, and Mary Ellen Pulley,
all of New Orleans, Louisiana. Her father was Walter Bernard Eagan, and her mother Helen Elizabeth Balster, who died in 1936. Her father later remarried, to Beatrice Arthus, and their
daughter is Carolyn Eagan of New Orleans.
She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana. While at Centenary College, she was the secretary of Au Fait, the French club,
and secretary of Alpha Sigma Chi, the honorary chemistry fraternity, and her fiancee, Alex May, was the vice president. She then married Alexander May of Shreveport, Louisiana in St Patrick's Cathedral
in New Orleans, on December 28, 1943. She is predeceased by her husband, Alexander May, who died September 23, 2006. She has nine children, 23 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her sister, Carolyn Eagan, of New Orleans, Louisiana.
Her children are: Dorothy Anne Dagan, of Glendora, California; Dr Helen Elizabeth May of Yonkers, New York; Dr Lloyd Alexander May of Mobile, Alabama; Dr Michael Eagan May of Nashville, Tennessee;
Marie Theresa Saxon of Douglas, Isle of Man; Walter Joseph May of Charlottesville, Virginia; Joseph Anthony May of Helena, Alabama; Shirley Marie Savino of Pomona, California; and Edward Thomas Mayof Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
She was a devout Catholic, and had been a member of St Monica's Parish, and later St Pius X Parish in Mobile, Alabama. She was sharp until the end, intellectual always, kindhearted to all, and always
managed a smile. She will be missed by all!
Visitation will be Friday evening, 6-7 PM, at Radney Funeral Home in Mobile, Alabama. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday January 21, 2017 at 2 pm at Corpus Christi Church in Mobile, Alabama. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 1 pm. Burial will be in the Catholic Cemetary, Mobile, Alabama. Funeral arrangements will be made by Radney Funeral Home, 3155 Dauphin Street,Mobile, Alabama, 36606 Arrangements under the direction of Radney Funeral Home-Mobile, Mobile, AL.
