

Steward Hayles, Jr. was born in Mobile, Alabama to Steward Hayles, Sr. and Roberta Blakenship Hayles. After the death of Roberta Hayles, his father married Nora Borden Hayles. He was raised in Mobile, Alabama, along with his two younger brothers. During his high school years, he was a very athletic football player and a well-liked student amongst his peers. After graduating from Toulminville High School, he immediately enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. While stationed at Cherry Point, North Carolina, he met his wife, Emma Flowers. After receiving an honorable discharge, he moved back to Mobile, Alabama with his new wife and began his career in the construction industry, as well as received his associate degree. He was a dedicated husband to his wife for nearly 50 years, a loving father to six children and a loyal Deacon of his church for 27 years. Steward soon established the reputation of being the most dedicated, hard worker to those who knew him best. He excelled at his full-time job while starting and maintaining a landscape business for nearly 4 decades until he retired in 2020.
Preceded in death by his brother, Carl Hayles.
He was survived by his wife, Emma Christine Hayles; his six children: Tina Scott (Joel), Lateeshi Dixon, Steward Hayles III (Ayata), Reshonda Gooden (Byron), Daniel Hayles, and Andrew Hayles; 17 grandchildren; and one brother, Michael Hayles, Sr. (Judy).
He will forever be missed as a man of generosity and integrity and loved by a host of in-laws, nephews and nieces, cousins and church members.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile, with a Celebration of Life immediately following in the chapel. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.
Pallbearers include: Joshua Scott, Miles Scott, Carl Hayles, Jr., Radford Waring, Joel Scott, Sr., and Aydien Hayles.
