Mr. Thomas C. Gibbs, longtime resident of Dauphin Island, AL, passed away at his home on Monday, February 1, 2021. He is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Eula Ree Gibbs, parents, O.N. and Leota Bray Gibbs and Saralou Knight Gibbs, brothers, Billy Gibbs (Bernice) , Gerald Gibbs, Linda Gibbs Kitchens, step-sisters, Jean Knight Puzzo, Tootsie Knight Hewell, father & mother-in-law Salvador S. Mallon, Irma Collier Mallon, brother-in-laws Hueston Mallon (Nettie), Boyd Kirkpatrick and Wesley Kitchens.
Mr. Gibbs served his country honorably in the United States Air Force for 10 years, serving with 705th AC and W Squadron, 23 Crash Rescue BLT FLT Brookley Air Force Base, Mobile, stationed at Dauphin Island, AL. He served a tour in Lucian Islands Nak Nak, Alaska, Warner Robbins Air Force Base U.S. Hospital, Kessler Air Force Base Biloxi MS and during the Korean Conflict. He received, the National Defense Service Medal, 705th AC and W Squadron Medal, Good Conduct Medal, South East Asia Medal and Korean Conflict Medal. He retired after 40 years with the Dauphin Island Water and Sewer Authority.
He also served for the Sheriff Department-Dauphin Island Auxillary 5 years and as President of Dauphin Island Civic Association.
Mr. Gibbs is survived by his sons, Richard Coleman Gibbs, Guy Mitchell Gibbs (Barbara J.Gibbs), Davy Boyd Gibbs (Barbara A. Gibbs) and grandchildren; Joseph Gibbs, Katlyn Gibbs, Madelyn Gibbs, Jacquelyn Gibbs, John Gibbs, sister-in-laws Shirley Mallon Kirkpatrick, Dottie (Dorothy) Mallon, Brother-in-law Preston Mallon (Connie), many nephews and neices, and extended families which-all held a place in his heart,
all of Dauphin Island, AL.
Visitation will be held at St. Edmund's Catholic Church from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 3, 2021. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Thursday. Interment will follow in Dauphin Island Catholic Cemetery.
