Thomas Cranford Gordon, 77, of Semmes, Alabama passed away on February 20, 2025. Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, Williard “Pewee” Gordon and Ethel Mae Havard Gordon. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Gwynn D. Gordon, his children “Tommy Jr” Gordon (Robin), Paul Gordon (Christi), Tammy McKinnell, Timothy Gordon (Barbi), Tina Broadus (Chris); his stepchildren Falisa Adams (Jim) and Bill Lorimer (Marian); a total of 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Tommy is also survived by his sisters Betty Lou Beech, Brenda Hathaway, Lisa Taylor (Jimmy), and his brothers Wayne, Harold, and Robert Gordon.
At an early age of eight, Tommy entered the workforce alongside his father. He learned how to repair, restore and paint automobiles. He took this knowledge and proceeded to open and maintain two successful mechanic shops in Semmes. His venturous spirit led him to add four more businesses dealing with the repair, restoration and salvage of vehicles. During his business career, he towed vehicles for surrounding cities, counties and states. Tommy’s unique “do it yourself” attribute, allowing him to fix or repair anything, led him to partner up with a friend and start the first Semmes Volunteer Fire Department. He also served his country for six years in the Army National Guard.
Tommy’s love for music was reflected in his bass and guitar talents. Outside of playing and singing in his home, he traveled with his dad and uncles performing in churches throughout south Mississippi and Alabama. He could often be heard sitting in his recliner singing to Gwynn: “I want to stroll across Heaven with you some glad day”.
Tommy’s generosity was reflected in his heart of gold. It was often said and confirmed that if he had a dollar, then you had a dollar. His love for his wife and family was undeniable and he will be greatly missed. Tommy’s love for Jesus comforts us today knowing he has no more pain or suffering and is strolling in the presence of our Lord and Savior.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at Living Hope Church, Saraland, Alabama beginning at 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow in Pine Crest West Cemetery, Mobile, Alabama.
