Thomas Elliott Shields

Thomas Elliott Shields – a 79 year-old native of Mobile, a former resident of Birmingham, AL and Memphis, TN, and current resident of Fairhope, AL passed peacefully from life to life on Thursday, November 3, 2011. He was a graduate of Shades Valley High School in Birmingham and Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University). Mr. Shields loved the beauty of God’s Creation, art, people, and above all else, his family. He realized his dream of retiring to Fairhope and treasured being a part of that community. Mr. Shields was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Lucia Shields. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Joyce Shields; daughters, Karen Lee Shields Parks (Richard) and Lauree Shields Riggin (John); grandchildren, Justin Riggin (Courtney), Kelly Garada (Said), Rebecca Riggin, Zachary Parks, and Hannah Rose Riggin; two great-grandchildren, Isabella and Zachary Garada; other relatives and friends. A celebration of Mr. Shields’ life will be held at St. James Episcopal Church in Fairhope on Monday, November 7, 2011, at 11 a.m. followed by a reception at the church.
