

William James Craddock (Jimmy), of Mobile, died December 29, 2016 at the age of 84. Jimmy was born in Livingston, Alabama, and grew up on Mohawk Street in Mobile. A 1951 graduate of Murphy High School, Jimmy served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and then had a lengthy civil service career in supply management, first at Brookley AFB, then at postings in Puerto Rico, England, and Oklahoma. During his time in government, Jimmy received numerous awards, including the Meritorious Civilian Service Award. He loved boating, baseball, traveling, his family, and the University of Alabama football team, not necessarily in that order. A long-time member of the Buccaneer Yacht Club, Jimmy was a multiple “Best Boat” winner of the Dog River Christmas Boat Parade. He is survived by his sister, Alice Craddock Jones of Mobile, several cousins, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Jimmy was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jo Cummins Craddock, his mother, Alice Belle Nixon Craddock, his father, John Neal Craddock, his sisters, Juliet Butler Gross and Ida Boyd Gibbons, and his brothers, John, Bascom, Jack and Edwin Craddock.
A memorial service will be held at the chapel of Pine Crest Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway, Mobile, AL on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 12:00 noon. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home at 11:00 am, on January 21. Immediately following the service, a reception will be held at the Buccaneer Yacht Club, 4381 Park Road, Mobile AL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Mobile Association for the Blind and the Salvation Army.
