
Mr. William Bernard Duffy, Sr., age 93 passed away at his home early Christmas morning, December 25, 2016. Mr. Duffy is preceded in death by his parents, John Harvey and Vivian M. Hammerson Duffy, two brothers, John R. Duffy and Harvey J. Duffy. He was born on February 11, 1923 in Mobile, AL. He attended Little Flower Catholic School and the Civilian Conservation Corps of California. Bernard proudly served in the United States Navy in the South Pacific during WWII. He was an aircraft mechanic at Brookley Field and later at Pensacola Naval Air Base for the Department of Defense. He was a charter member of St. Dominic Catholic Church and an active member of VFW Post 49, American Legion Post 76, lifetime member of DAV Shehan Pake #7 and was a charter member of the National WWII Museum of New Orleans. He was also an avid Alabama football fan. Mr. Duffy is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary Louise “Dumpy” Thublin Duffy, his four children; William B. Duffy, Jr. and wife Evelyn, Debra M. Culbreath, John “Bart” Duffy and his wife Sandy, Louise A. Glenn and husband, Steve, eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; sister, Delia Nibblett and brother, Anthony Duffy, numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 4156 Burma Rd., Mobile, AL, on Friday, December 30, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. A memorial service will follow immediately after the visitation. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Veterans Administration and St. Dominic Catholic Church in Bernard’s honor.
