Gilbert served in the US Navy from 1958 to 1962. He was a dedicated employee at the Ford Stamping Plant for 43 years. Buckey and Toot met at the Monee Fairgrounds roller rink and were married on June 21, 1959.
Family was the anchor of his life. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and was an avid believer that head scratches could fix just about everything. Buckey's hobbies included anything that kept his hands busy from playing games, stripping copper, scrapping, odd projects, visiting his friend Larry in KY and FaceTiming with his family.
Gilbert is survived by his daughters, Julie (Billy) Williams and Terri VadeBoncoeur; his son, Gordon (Kimberly) VadeBoncoeur; his fur baby, Puddles; his grandchildren, Christina, Lisa, Nickolas, Brittany, Samantha, Kayla, Tayler and Tanner; his great-grandchildren, Madison, Abigail, Isabella, Mia, Savannah, Gwendolyn, Elena, Adalyn, Russell, Soren and Clyde and step grandson, Billy. He is also survived by his sisters, Sue (Ray) Lennertz, Wendy (Ed) Sandlin, Karen Kozinski, Carol (Stephen) Bastic.
Gilbert was preceded in death by his wife, Devon "Toot" Jacobs-VadeBoncoeur; parents, Ronald and Eleanor VadeBoncoeur; his brothers, Roger, Dale, Raymond, Robert, Gerald, Richard, Wayne and Virgil; his sisters, Sandra (Eason) Small and Colleen Sass; and his niece, Toni Sue Riney.
He was a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.
