

Armando Nicolia passed away Sunday, November 10, 2013, at his home. He was married to Margherita Nicolia on February 8, 1939 and was married for 73 years until her death on March 22, 2012. He came to the United States at the early age of 19 from Frosinore, Italy and was quickly drafted to and was proud to serve in World War II. He was private first class company F 18th mechanized cavalry reconnaissance squadron. Decorations and Citations: Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Campaign Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon and Victory Medal. Served with the 253rd infantry regiment in the European theatre as an antitank gun crewman, assisted in the loading firing and maintenance of an anti tank gun in the capturing holding or destroying the enemy personnel, positions and equipment. Assisted in the preparation of the gun for firing and handling of the ammuniation. Served as 2nd gunner of the gun crew while in action against the enemy. Received honorable discharge on April 30, 1946 from Fort Devons, Massachusetts. He was a 4th degree knights of Columbus at Mother Cabrini Council. After the war he picked up the trade as cement finishing and worked for many big companies in the 60’s and 70’s including Arduini Construction and his long time friend Amedeo DiCocco Construction company which he built with Amedeo, the fountain which stands at St. Margaret Shrine. He later retired from construction and went to work for the city of Bridgeport Roadway Maintenance which he retired. He loved to watch his favorite Yankees Baseball team and loved to watch the UCONN Women’s Basketball team with his long time neighbor of 50 years Jean Hall. He leaves behind his Beloved daughter Philomena Stefanacci and his Beloved Grandson Biagio Nicoli, wife Lori and great granddaughters Alex and Jenna, Brother Julio Nicolia and wife Pasqualina and a sister Anna Iaboni. He was predeceased by a daughter Christina Nicolia and Beloved Grandson Jerry Joseph Nicoli. He also leaves behind many Beloved nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at 10 am at St. Margaret’s Shrine, Bridgeport. Intombment will immediately follow in St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford.
