Delores (“Dee”) was born in Hackensack NJ, reared in faith by her parents in the Jackson Temple Church of God in Christ. She graduated Hackensack High School and attended Fairleigh Dickinson University, destined for a career in legal administration. She was employed as a Legal Secretary in New York City for many years. In 1974 Delores married Joseph Speight and moved to Texas with her family. She ultimately settled in Austin TX, continuing her career.
A devout Christian, she spent many years ministering to and caring for others. She was predeceased by her late father and mother, Elmore and Idenia Hayes, her sister, Eva Mae Butler and her nephew David Lockett. Delores leaves to cherish her memory her beloved daughters Tracey D. Hayes of Monroe CT and Deana E. Speight of Vineland, NJ; granddaughter Ana Abreu Speight, sister Gloria Lockett of Monroe CT, brother Elmore Hayes Jr. of Newark NJ, brother-in-law Kenneth Butler of St. Petersburg FL and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. The family extends a special thanks to Deer Creek of Wimberley Nursing Facility in Wimberley TX and Heart-to-Heart Hospice in San Marcos TX for their compassion and dignity in caring for our loved one.
A Memorial Service will take place Saturday morning, May 25, 2019, at 11:00 am at the Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe CT. Private family reception will immediately follow at 1:00 pm.
