Domingos F. DaSilva, Jr. was born, May 26, 1974 at Park City Hospital in Bridgeport, CT as the second child and son to Domingos and Maria DaSilva, of Portuguese decent. Most grew to know him fondly as Junior while many called him Dominic. No matter how you referred to him, all who knew him got the same impression; he was honest, straightforward, had a huge heart, hard working and was a perfectionist. Mastering all he attempted to do.
Always a resident of Connecticut, Junior began his childhood living in Bridgeport with his father, mother, his older brother, Jon and his younger sister, Linda. Linda he decided to watch over, admiring her and loving her, all the while being so protective of her. In 1985 his family moved to Shelton. He by this time had already learned to play the drums, bass guitar and accordion. He continued to practice and master both of his favorite instruments, the drums and bass guitar, while dabbling in keyboard. He also loved singing. Every morning he would start off the day with a different song. Whatever was in his head, whether it was an American song or Portuguese. By middle school he already was involved with his first band, Novo Mundo with his brother Jon, moving onto additional bands like, Illusions, Rodgerson Circle and BOD. These bands played all over Connecticut and also ventured out of state to New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and even as far as Florida.
He attended Read School in Bridgeport, Booth Hill School in Shelton, and Shelton Intermediate in Shelton and continued onto Bullard Havens Technical School in Bridgeport where he learned auto mechanics through his junior year of high school. For his senior year he attended Shelton High School in Shelton. After that he pursued a career as an electrician, once again attending Bullard Havens in the Adult Educational Program for Electrical. All the while he made more and more friends.
In the summer of 2007 he decided to switch careers and began working as the Chief Engineer of Holiday Inn Express in Shelton. In August of 2008 he switched hotels maintaining his Chief Engineer position but this time for the Residence Inn in Shelton.
Everyone who had the privilege of knowing Junior and befriending him, found him to be an amazing and charming person. With a strong personality and a great sense of humor, he quickly made an ever lasting impression on those who met him. He enjoyed life and took advantage of what it had to offer. He loved animals and nature and enjoyed being outdoors. His favorite animal was the wolf. He would continuously watch the Discovery Channel and any other channel that would show documentaries on animals and nature, making sure his children watched with him. He loved sports, with football and soccer being his favorites. Devoting himself to the Dallas Cowboys for football and admiring the Benfica team in Portugal and the Portuguese National Team for soccer. His many hobbies and fascinations included motorcycles, ATVs, fishing, remote control cars, foosball and cooking.
In September of 1991 he began dating his wife, Alexandra. Sharing his first home in Bridgeport with her in 1997 and then welcoming their first child, Dominic, in July of 2000. This was one of the most important days of Junior’s life. Thrilled to have a son, he grew with Dominic showing him all he could as much as he could. He absolutely adored him. In October of 2002 this family of three ventured to Seymour where they purchased their first home in this town. Deciding to unite in front of God, Junior and Alex married at St. Jude’s Church in Monroe on May 29, 2004. Their wedding party was quite large and most people couldn’t understand this, but knowing Junior and how many lives he touched, you would know that he had to include many that were close to him, both family and friends. They went on to purchase their second and final home in Seymour in January of 2005, welcoming their daughter Samantha on December 15, 2005, making this another extremely important day for him. His family was now complete with his princess joining them. He too began to teach her and show her many things.
Family was everything to him. Junior always tried to be with his wife and children. Anything he did he tried to include them. Even working late and on weekends, he would use any excuse to have one of them, usually Dominic, and sometimes all three of them at the hotel with him. Always opening their home to anyone who needed a place to go to or a place to stay, whether it was his family or Alex’s, or a close friend, he never wanted anyone to feel like they had nowhere to go, or nowhere to turn.
Although he was a private person, he shared his passions with many. And was constant encouragement for those who had the pleasure to know him. He was taken away from everyone at such a young age, but also had accomplished so much at such a young age. He is now with God, an angel watching over his family and his friends. Not only was he a husband, father, son and brother, but he was also a nephew, a cousin, a son in law, a brother in law, an uncle, a Godfather, a Godson and a best friend. He will be missed by all forever and always.
He entered into eternal rest on Saturday, April 18, 2009. Junior passed away loved by many and knowing that he was loved. His wife will ensure that he is never forgotten. Their love for each other is eternal and Alex will never be able to thank Junior enough for the two greatest gifts he left to her, Dominic and Samantha. He will watch over them from above and fill their hearts with love and hopefully they will grow to be like their father, loving, compassionate, intellectual, inquisitive and trustworthy.
