

Donald W. Prentice, age 80, of Wolcott, CT, passed away on January 24, 2013. He was the beloved husband of the late Norma Sarah Prentice. He was born in Norwalk, CT on February 27, 1932, son of the late David Boyd and Harriett Emma Hall Prentice. He resided briefly with his son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Janice Prentice of Georgetown, TX. Prior to moving to Texas he resided for 20 years with his daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Paul DiPietro of Wolcott, CT. He is also survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Glen and Carol Prentice of Monroe, CT, his sister Jeanne Hackenson of Southbury, CT, six granddaughters, Melissa Prentice-Vick of Austin, TX, Amy Devine of Prospect, CT, Heather Prentice of Derby, CT, Erica DiPietro of Wolcott, CT, Erin Prentice of Derby, CT, and Jennifer Prentice of Georgetown, TX, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members. He was predeceased by his son Gregory Prentice, brothers Herbert, Albert and David Prentice and sister Harriet Bailey. He was also a long-time resident of Monroe, CT and Bridgeport, CT. He graduated from Harding High School located in Bridgeport, CT in 1949 where he played football and was nicknamed, “Mr. Outside”. Shortly following graduation Donald was drafted into the Army and served his country proudly for two years (1952-54). Following his Honorable Discharge he started work for Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford, CT retiring after 42 years of service working in the transportation department as a truck driver. Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Wednesday, January 30, 2012 at 10:00 am at the Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe CT. Burial will follow the memorial service at Monroe Center Cemetery, Monroe, CT.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Cancer Society, Scott and White Hospice and Home Health care of Georgetown, TX or a charitable organization of your choice in memory of Donald W. Prentice.
