Born in New Haven, Connecticut, he was the son of Ernest R. Hartz, Sr and Blanche Rose Rydel Hartz. Graduating from Southern CT State University with a degree in Business, Kip remained a lifelong Connecticut resident, spending a majority of his adult years living in Fairfield. He was the proud owner of Kip’s Ski Shop, which successfully remained in business for over 35 years.
Kip lived a full and exciting life. From ski weekends at Killington to his annual golf trip in Myrtle Beach, and a trip or two to the casino in between, Kip met some lifelong friends along the way who he shared unforgettable memories with. Kip was a simple, hardworking man at heart, spending most of his days in his ski shop or putting up tents.
Over the years, Kip gave countless people their first job, perhaps bending a few labor laws along the way. If you’ve ever worked for Kip, I’m sure you’ll never forget the experience as he certainly lived the phrase “my way or the highway”. Beyond the rough exterior, Kip had a heart of gold and was the first one to offer a job to a friend in need, regardless of whether he actually needed the help or not.
Kip is survived by his daughter Brittany Hartz (Matthew Hawks), step-daughter Rebecca Thibault, grandchildren Hailey and Quinn, brother Paul (Janet) Hartz, sister Shaileen (Jean) Rounds, and niece & nephew Kimberly & Paul Hartz Jr. He was predeceased by his mother Blanche Rose Rydel Hartz, father Ernest R. Hartz, Sr, and brother Gregory Hartz.
Friends are invited to calling hours on Friday, June 28, 2024 from 11am-1pm at Spadaccino & Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe, CT 06468. A short memorial service will be held on site at 1pm, with interment to immediately follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to your local animal shelter or rescue group in honor of Kip’s lifelong love of animals.
