

George A. Ligouri, (Giorgio) age 86 of Trumbull entered into rest peacefully in his home Thursday November 4, 2010. He was predeceased by his loving wife Pearl J. Ligouri.
George was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut February 22, 1924 and was the son to the late James Ligouri (Vincenzo) and Caterina Tanelli.
He was a proud veteran and war hero of the US Army having honorably served during the Second World War. He was a Field Medical Technician who was deployed in Northern Solomon’s and Southern Philippines from 1943 – 1945. He was decorated with the Purple Heart and awarded two Bronze Medals for his heroic efforts during combat. He retired from the US Postal Office after 35 years of employment. During his time with the Post Office he also established and was one of the founding partners of the famous “Ligouri’s Drive-In” in Monroe. George’s next successful business venture was “Meals on Wheels” where he and his wife set out to provide hot/cold food and beverages for local businesses. He later retired at the age of 81 as a shuttle bus driver for Sacred Heart University where he was named “The Little Man behind the Big Wheel”. He was well known around campus for his warm smile and caring personality for the students. George was also renowned around town for his legendary vegetable garden which he always shared with family, friends and neighbors.
Survivors include his devoted son and caregiver, Gio P. Ligouri of Stratford; two loving daughters, Lois and her husband Gil Mikita of Torrington and Brenda Lee and her husband, Michael Silvey of Rocky Hill; four cherished grandchildren, Gilbert R. Mikita II of Middletown, George P Ligouri III and his wife Jessica N. Ligouri of Trumbull, Brian T. Ligouri and Messlisa K. Ligouri of Monroe; seven great-grandchildren, Emma N. Mikita, Dillon W. Mikita, Leia Pearl Mikita, Anna Theresa Ligouri, Jack George Ligouri, Luke Allen Ligouri, Evan James Ligouri; lifelong dearest friend of the family, Debbie Aiello; three brothers, John Ligouri, Raymond Ligouri and Armando Ligouri; two sisters, Madeline Soules, Virginia Lauro and several nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by 5 brothers Louis Ligouri, James Ligouri, Anthony Ligouri, Joseph Ligouri and Thomas Ligouri; two sisters Rose Schettino and Jean Bockiaro.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday November 8th at 11:00 AM in St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church 5301 Main St. Trumbull. Interment with Military honors will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Daniels Farm Road Trumbull. Visiting hours will be held Sunday November 7th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Spadaccino and Leo P.
