

James H. Parsons of Monroe Connecticut died October 9, 2010. Born May 18, 1927 in New Haven , CT , he was the son of the late James Richard Parsons and Mary Frances Parsons. He was pre-deceased by his brother, Charles Henry Parsons and survived by his sister, Anne Parsons of Catonsville, Maryland and cousin Edward Ohr of Wallingford , Connecticut as well as many close friends. Jim was a teacher and retired from the Greenwich school system.
He lived in Monroe and was an active member of St. Peter’s on the Green. Following his graduation from East Haven High School in 1945 he joined the Navy. He was in the DeMolay. He attended Ohio Wesleyan in 1945 and 1946 and was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. He received his Bachelor’s degree from the New Haven State Teacher’s College in 1954 and his Master’s from UCONN in 1959. Jim loved to travel and spent many happy summer vacations in the Grand Teton National Park and other National Campgrounds. He spent some time in Britain , a summer in Scotland and Egypt .
He was a member of the Photographic Society of America (PSA) and became a Fellow in 1984. He was Chairman of PSA’s Photo-Travel Division 1978 – 1980 and in 1999 won the Victor H. Scales Memorial Award. He was a member of the New England Camera Club Council and served as president and became an Honorary Life Vice President in 2003. He also belonged to many local camera clubs including: Milford Camera Club, Nutmeg Camera Club and served as President of the New Haven Camera Club and Stamford Camera Club. He was an avid reader, especially of material on the American Revolution and was a fountain of knowledge on Thomas Jefferson. As his sight diminished he shifted his interest from photography and reading to music. He was a collector of salts, goblets, books, bears, and all things Jefferson . A memorial service and interment will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, October 16, 2010 at St. Peter’s on the Green in Monroe , Connecticut . In lieu of flowers, Jim has requested donations may be sent to St. Peters on the Green.
