John Christopher O'Connor, age 88, of Sandy Hook, CT, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 25, 2018. John was born October 26, 1929, to the late James and Mary O'Connor in Dingle, Co. Kerry, Ireland. John became an indentured servant in his youth where he learned the plumbing trade. He immigrated to the United States in 1953 and worked with various construction companies as well as the City of New York and left his mark in virtually every skyscraper that decorates the NY skyline. He married Eileen (nee McKenna of Anascaul, Co. Kerry, Ireland) in 1957, and they were married more than 50 years until her untimely death in 2010. John lived in Astoria, NY for most of his years in this country and moved to Newtown, CT eight years ago.
He leaves behind his children and their spouses: Brian and Fran O'Connor of Cortland Manor NY, Eileen and Michael Caggiano of Moon Township PA, Mary and Alan Scharlop of Fairfield CT, Erin and John Corcoran of Newtown CT, Ann and Dan Scott of Tappan NY and their families which includes 10 grandchildren, Kate, Brendan, Michael, Jessica, Kathleen, Alana, Conor, Erin, Clare and Grace along with two great grandchildren, Alexandria and Bruce; also, his sisters, Teresa Saurin of Dingle, Co. Kerry and Breega Donoghue of Mullingar, Co. West Meath and his brother, Father Patrick O'Connor of San Antonio, TX.
A visitation for John will be held Tuesday, March 27, 2018, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher and Son Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe, CT.
A Mass of Christian Burial will occur Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at 12:00 PM at Saint Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, 46 Church Hill Rd., Newtown, CT. Burial will take place Wednesday, March 28, 2018, immediately following funeral mass at Saint Charles Cemetery, 2015 Wellwood Ave., Farmingdale, NY.
