Ken was born in Rockville Centre, New York on October 24, 1954 to George F. Jr. and Josephine Smith. He spent most of his growing up years in Baldwin, New York and Rowayton, Connecticut. He graduated from Brien McMahon High School in 1972 and attended Boston University for college where he majored in Marketing. Ken led a very fascinating life. He traveled all over the continent of Europe and lived in Hawaii and California before settling in St. Augustine, Florida for many years. In 2011, he reconnected with his girlfriend Linda from the early 1980’s, and they married shortly thereafter. He and Linda spent most of their married life in Ridgefield, Connecticut. They moved to Seymour, Connecticut in recent years. He passed away on their wedding anniversary with Linda holding his hand.
Ken had some interesting careers: He worked on a cruise ship in Hawaii as a beverage master, he worked as a set designer and won awards for his work. He also was very successful in business equipment sales. His lifelong passion and career for most of his life however, was his antique business. Most of his antique work dealt in political items and advertising or marketing ephemera. He was also a member of the American Political Items Collectors (APIC) for many, many years and had some wonderful 40+ year friendships with members of that group. Ken was also a sports fanatic! While he enjoyed all sports, he was a fan of the Mets, Red Sox, Giants and Florida Gators.
Kenneth was predeceased by his parents George and Josephine Smith. Ken is very much loved and will be greatly missed by his wife Linda W. Smith of Seymour and his brothers; Douglas Smith (Janet) of Melbourne, Florida and Donald Smith of St. Augustine, Florida. He is also survived by his stepsons Brent (Samantha) and Craig (Nicole) and step grandchildren, Vivienne and Carl. Ken leaves several nieces and nephews along with their children, and his loving cousin Pam Murray.
All arrangements will be private and at the discretion of the family.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Smilow Cancer Center and Yale New Haven Hospital for their incredible care and compassion over the course of Ken’s illness.
